U.S. Conducts ‘Self-Defense’ Strikes as Iran Ceasefire Talks Continue

The United States has carried out what officials described as “self-defense” strikes in the Middle East while diplomatic negotiations with Iran continue over a possible ceasefire agreement and regional security deal.

According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces launched limited military strikes while maintaining what it called “restraint” during ongoing ceasefire discussions involving Iran and regional allies.

The latest military action comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following weeks of conflict and international concern over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.

Trump Says Iran Deal ‘Largely Negotiated’

President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are progressing and suggested a major agreement could soon be finalized.

Speaking on Monday, Trump stated that a deal with Tehran was “largely negotiated,” adding that the United States would either sign “a great and meaningful pact” or walk away entirely.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also indicated that an agreement involving the reopening and stabilization of the Strait of Hormuz could be announced soon.

The waterway remains strategically important for global energy markets, with any disruption capable of impacting oil prices worldwide.

Iran Signals Progress but Warns Challenges Remain

Iranian officials acknowledged that negotiations with the United States had advanced on several major points, but they cautioned that a final agreement was not yet close.

Tehran emphasized that discussions currently underway do not include immediate compromises regarding Iran’s nuclear program — an issue that continues to be one of the biggest obstacles in negotiations.

Iran also criticized what it described as inconsistent messaging from the U.S. side, saying “frequent changes” and contradictions were creating complications during the final phase of talks.

CENTCOM Says Strikes Were Defensive

In a statement, CENTCOM defended the recent military operation, insisting the strikes were carried out strictly for defensive purposes.

The U.S. military said it remains committed to protecting American personnel and interests in the region while simultaneously supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

Officials did not immediately release details about the specific targets or locations involved in the strikes.

Middle East Tensions Continue to Impact Global Markets

The ongoing conflict and uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Iran negotiations continue to draw close attention from global leaders and financial markets.

Energy analysts are monitoring developments carefully because any escalation involving the Strait of Hormuz could significantly affect international oil supplies and shipping operations.

Despite the fragile situation, diplomats from multiple countries are continuing efforts to secure a broader ceasefire agreement and prevent further military escalation across the region.

Uncertainty Remains Over Final Agreement

While both Washington and Tehran have signaled progress, major disagreements still appear unresolved, particularly regarding sanctions relief, regional security guarantees, and Iran’s nuclear activities.

For now, the situation remains highly fluid as diplomatic negotiations continue alongside ongoing military tensions in the Middle East.
