US and Iran Exchange Fresh Attacks as Fragile Ceasefire Faces New Threat
Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated again after both sides launched fresh military strikes, raising fears that the already fragile ceasefire could collapse into a wider regional conflict.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted a US airbase in retaliation for American strikes on Iranian military assets near the Strait of Hormuz earlier in the day.
The latest exchange of attacks comes as diplomatic efforts to end months of fighting remain uncertain.
Iran Targets US Airbase After American Strikes
According to Iranian state media, the IRGC launched attacks on a US military airbase that Tehran claims was involved in recent operations against Iranian targets.
The retaliation followed US strikes on Iranian drones and a launch site near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important shipping route that handles a major portion of the world’s oil trade.
A US official said American forces targeted the drones after they were considered a threat to security operations in the region.
The renewed military activity marks another serious test for the ceasefire agreement that both sides have struggled to maintain in recent weeks.
Trump Warns Iran During Ongoing Negotiations
US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran would continue but warned that Washington would not rush into an agreement.
Speaking at the White House, Trump dismissed suggestions that Iran could pressure the US politically by prolonging talks.
“They think they can wait us out, but I don’t care about the midterms,” Trump said.
The White House also rejected reports from Iranian state media claiming that a draft memorandum under discussion would include lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
US officials described those reports as inaccurate and misleading.
Israel Intensifies Operations in Lebanon
Meanwhile, the conflict continues to spread across the region.
The Israeli military confirmed new strikes against Hezbollah targets in the Lebanese city of Tyre, north of the area currently occupied by Israeli forces.
Israeli officials said more than 150 Hezbollah-linked sites were targeted within the last 24 hours as military operations in Lebanon intensified.
The growing violence in both Iran and Lebanon has increased concerns among world leaders about the possibility of a broader Middle East conflict that could further disrupt global energy markets and regional stability.
Strait of Hormuz Remains a Global Concern
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be at the center of the crisis. The narrow waterway is one of the world’s most critical oil shipping lanes, and any disruption there could impact global fuel prices and international trade.
Shipping activity in the region has already been affected by military tensions, with several commercial vessels facing delays and security concerns.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but the latest attacks highlight how quickly the situation can deteriorate despite ongoing negotiations.
