Viral Albino Buffalo Named ‘Donald Trump’ Saved From Eid Sacrifice in Bangladesh
A rare albino buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump” has been rescued from Eid-ul-Azha sacrifice in Bangladesh after intervention from senior government officials, drawing widespread attention from international media outlets.
The unusual pink buffalo, which became a viral sensation on social media due to its striking appearance and golden-colored hair resembling former U.S. President Donald Trump, has now been permanently relocated to the National Zoo in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Government Intervention Saves Viral Buffalo
According to local reports, the buffalo had already been sold ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and was expected to be sacrificed during the religious festival. However, growing public interest and concerns over the animal’s rare genetic condition prompted authorities to step in at the last moment.
Under special instructions from Bangladesh’s Home Minister, police reportedly took the buffalo into protective custody from Keraniganj before the sacrifice could take place.
Officials later refunded the buyer in full, while the Department of Livestock arranged for the animal’s lifelong preservation at the zoo.
Rare Genetic Condition Made Buffalo Globally Famous
The buffalo’s unusual pink color is believed to be caused by albinism, a rare genetic condition that reduces pigmentation in the skin and hair.
In a country where black buffaloes are far more common, the animal quickly became a social media sensation because of its distinct appearance and blond hair-like patch on its forehead, which many compared to Donald Trump’s hairstyle.
Photos and videos of the buffalo spread rapidly online, turning it into one of Bangladesh’s most talked-about viral animal stories this year.
International Media Coverage
The story attracted major international attention, with several leading global media organizations covering the buffalo’s rescue.
British news agency Reuters reported that the viral fame helped spare the “Donald Trump” buffalo from Eid sacrifice in Bangladesh.
French news agency AFP humorously referred to the animal as the “Commander in Beef,” a play on the U.S. presidential title “Commander in Chief.”
France 24, Sky News, Anadolu Agency, The Times of Israel, and the New York Post also published reports highlighting the unusual case.
Other international outlets including The Telegraph, The Independent, Dawn, Times of India, and India Today featured stories on the rare albino buffalo and the public reaction surrounding it.
Buffalo to Remain Under Protection
Authorities say the buffalo will now remain under official care at the Dhaka National Zoo, where it is expected to become a major attraction for visitors.
Animal experts have noted that albino livestock are extremely rare, making the buffalo both scientifically unique and culturally significant.
The incident has also sparked discussions online about animal conservation, rare species protection, and the growing influence of social media in shaping public opinion and government action.
